We often get asked about local book clubs or groups suitable for people to join – we don’t directly run one of our own, but here’s a list of all the ones we know of!
Get in touch if you have one to add to the list.
We contribute by selecting the book choice each month – always a relatively new paperback fiction novel. There’s plenty of variation and organised monthly meetings, currently at The Seven Stars pub on the Moor.
The Alternative Upstairs Book Group
This is a splinter group from the original – books are selected by the group and range from classics to contemporary. Currently, they are meeting on Zoom, and details can be found on the same Facebook page as the Upstairs Downstairs group (linked above).
Charles Dickens Slow Readers
There are also a few members of the group splitting off to do a slow read of Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens, reading a few chapters at a time at the pace it was originally published. Again, info on the Upstairs Downstairs page.
A new book group in Falmouth, a group of women reading for fun and creating a space where women can relax and discuss and chat together. The book is voted by the group each month and can be absolutely any theme.
RCYC Book Club
This new book club based at The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club meets once a month on Tuesdays at 11am for members and guests. There is an open invitation for lunch after the book discussion is concluded. Books are chosen by rotation so everyone has an opportunity to pick a book, aiming for a maximum of 300 pages.
