The Hong Kong Widow

Hong Kong, 1953. Mei is a young refugee of the Chinese Communist Revolution scraping out a living as a traditional paper-cutting artist. But paper art is not her only gift; she also has the ability to speak to ghosts, an ability that she has striven to bury. When she receives an invitation – to take part in a competition pitting six spirit mediums against one another – she has every reason to refuse. Except that the hostess is none other than the wife of the man who once destroyed Mei’s entire life. The winner is promised a fortune, but there is only one prize Mei wants: Revenge. Decades later, that competition has become an infamous urban legend: the police were called to the scene of a brutal massacre but found no evidence, dismissing it as a collective hallucination. Mei, now elderly, knows what she saw, she just doesn’t quite know what she did.
